Rob Van Dam defeats Magnus in a Bound for Glory series match on TNA Impact Wrestling: August 9, 2012
TNA blew a huge opportunity with the Bound for Glory Series to make a new star in Magnus. Instead of using the round-robin tournament to put over someone new (Magnus, the Pope), the company decided to go with the established guys (James Storm, Kurt Angle, Mr. Anderson, Jeff Hardy, etc.).
Magnus was the perfect dark horse. He has a good look (6-foot-3, 240 pounds and cut) and the potential to be a breakout international star in the UK, where TNA has strong television penetration. It just doesn’t make sense to waste Magnus’ potential and put over retreads, like this past Thursday in a loss to Rob Van Dam (or to Christopher Daniels or Bully Ray). None of those guys would lose anything by putting Magnus over. But Magnus could have gained.
Magnus didn’t have to win the tourney. If the plan is for James Storm to get the win, fine. But at least make a new star by going over some of the veterans.
