Bret “Hitman” Hart wins the WWF Intercontinental Championship from Mr. Perfect at SummerSlam: August 26, 1991

The Match Made in Heaven and the Match Made in Hell were the main attractions for SummerSlam ‘91, but the Hitman and Mr. Perfect stole the show. WWE.com named the match the second best in SummerSlam history, and the match lived up to the hype. The Excellence of Execution kicked out of a Perfect Plex — unheard of at the time — and overcame a low blow to lock Hennig in the Sharpshooter. (Watch highlights after the jump.)

"Macho Man" Randy Savage finally married Miss Elizabeth in storyline. Read more about the wedding and see an invitation to the ceremony here.

The Match Made in Hell saw Hulk Hogan and the Ultimate Warrior defeat Sgt. Slaughter, the Iron Sheik (known then as Col. Mustafa) and General Adnan.

Also on the card:

The Road Warriors won the WWF World Tag Team Championships from the Nasty Boys.

Ricky Steamboat, Davey Boy Smith and Kerry Von Erich won a six-man tag against the Warlord and Power & Glory (Hercules and Paul Roma).

Virgil won the Million Dollar Belt from “the Million Dollar Man” Ted DiBiase.

The Big Boss Man defeated the Mountie in a jailhouse match in which the loser was forced to spend a night in jail.

The Natural Disasters (Earthquake and Typhoon) squashed the Bushwhackers.

Irwin R. Schyster beat Greg “The Hammer” Valentine.
