"British Bulldog" Davey Boy Smith wins the WWF Intercontinental Championship from Bret "Hitman" Hart at SummerSlam: August 31, 1992
The greatest match in SummerSlam history took place in front of 80,355 people at Wembley Stadium. The contest pitted WWF Intercontinental Champion Bret “Hitman” Hart against his brother-in-law, the “British Bulldog” Davey Boy Smith. One of my all-time favorite matches, and another great ending sequence with the Bulldog reversing a sunset flip for the pin.
Also on the list of greatest matches: The Ultimate Warrior challenging his old rival, “Macho Man” Randy Savage, for the WWF World Championship. The match ranked 16th on WWE.com’s list. The encounter wasn’t nearly as classic or dramatic as their career vs. career match at WrestleMania VII. The title match ended with the champion getting counted out thanks to interference by “Nature Boy” Ric Flair and Mr. Perfect.
Also on the card:
The Undertaker defeated Kamala, who was disqualified.
The Road Warriors defeated Money Inc.
The Shawn Michaels versus Rick “the Model” Martel match ended in a double count-out with both men fighting over Sensational Sherri.
The Natural Disasters retained the WWF World Tag Team Championships against the Beverly Brothers.
Papa Shango beat “El Matador” Tito Santana.
Tatanka beat the Berzerker.
Nailz squashed Virgil.
In a match up of former Demolition partners, Crush beat Repo Man (formerly Smash).
"Hacksaw" Jim Duggan and the Bushwackers beat the Nasty Boys and the Mountie.
