WWE turns Matt Hardy’s beef with Lita and Edge into a storyline on Monday Night Raw: July 11, 2005

Matt Hardy made a surprising return to Raw on this date in history, attacking Edge and calling Lita a whore (watch it here). The angle was made to look like a shoot, with security escorting Hardy out of the building in handcuffs.

Hardy’s recent spiral has been well documented. He ended up doing a stint in WWE sponsored rehab after numerous run-ins with the cops. Hopefully he finally got the help he’s long needed, dating back to the end of his relationship with Lita, who Hardy very publicly accused of cheating on him with Edge.

At the time, WWE released Hardy from his contract, but eventually brought him back and worked the real life bad blood into an angle. Hardy never got the best of his feud with Edge, who won their SummerSlam 2005 showdown in under five minutes. You could tell who the company was really behind.

Bret Hitman Hart defends the WWF World Championship against the 1-2-3 Kid on Monday Night Raw: July 11, 1994
Jim Ross called the match “one of the greatest matches I have ever seen in my entire career.” Macho Man Randy Savage agreed. WWE.com ranked the match as No. 3 on its list of the 50 greatest Raw matches.
The Hitman won by making the Kid tap to the Sharpshooter, but made Sean Waltman look like a contenderrather than just a fluke win (like the one that got him over against Razor Ramon aka Scott Hall).

The Ultimate Warrior makes his final appearance in WWE, wrestles Owen Hart on Monday Night Raw in Green Bay, Wisconsin: July 8, 1996
Gorilla Monsoon indefinitely suspended the Ultimate Warrior 16 years ago today for no-showing live events. Monsoon demanded the Warrior to post an appearance bond or remain suspended. This was a mix of work and shoot as this was the Warrior’s last match in a WWE ring.
Warrior never posted the bond. The suspension must still be in effect because he hasn’t appeared in the WWE since this match with Owen Hart on Raw (watch it after the jump). He did go on to wrestle in WCW — but I wish I could forget his WCW run.

The match with the King of Harts was typical Warrior, with Hart bumping all over the ring until Davey Boy Smith and Vader ran in for the DQ finish.
It’s notable that Vince McMahon didn’t bury Warrior on commentary, although Jerry the King Lawler hinted that this could be Warrior’s last match with the organization.
There seems to be some residual hard feelings between Warrior and WWE, but I’d bet on him going into the WWE Hall of Fame before Bruno Sammartino.

AJ puts CM Punk and Daniel Bryan through a table on Monday Night Raw: July 2, 2012
AJ craves attention. And when she doesn’t get it, she’ll do whatever it takes to get it.
During the main event tag match on Raw, Punk and Bryan were too busy fighting to notice AJ skipping around the ring. So she did thought WWDVDD? What would D-Von Dudley Do? He’d get the table.

AJ set up a table at ringside and threatened to jump through it. Bryan and Punk begged her not to jump, with the Second City Savior climbing the ropes to talk her down.
AJ kissed Punk and pushed him off the top, sending him crashing into the Goat-Faced Killa and through the table while AJ celebrated.
Strong edition of Raw pushing the WWE Championship match and strong build for Money in the Bank. We’re left to wonder who AJ is going to side with — if anyone.
