Shawn Michaels successfully defends the WWF Championship against Vader at SummerSlam ‘96: August 18, 1996
The Showstopper and the Mastodon fought over the WWF Championship at the ‘96 summer classic. Vader kicked out of Sweet Chin Music and power bombed Michaels, who proved his resilience by kicking out. Vader dragged HBK to a corner and attempted a moonsault but crashed and burned when Michaels moved (and he didn’t have far to go). Somehow, “Stone Cold” Steve Austin couldn’t get on the main card. The Rattlesnake defeated Yokozuna when the rope broke under the nearly-600-pound sumo’s weight. The match was one of Yoko’s last in the WWE.
